Position Details
The University is seeking applications for a temporary position of Licensed Practical Nurse/Medical Office Assistant. As a member of an interdisciplinary medical team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Medical Office Assistant (MOA) provides physician and medical office support to the medical services provided by the University of Lethbridge Health Centre. While this position provides evidence-based nursing care within full scope of the LPN practice, the incumbent is also responsible for the delivery of office administrative tasks to support the clinic.
Position Qualifications
The Health Centre is looking for a Temporary full-time Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Medical Office Assistant (MOA). The Licensed Practical Nurse(LPN) /Medical Office Assistant (MOA) must be able to greet and check-in patients upon arrival to the clinic and perform any other assorted duties as assigned that fall within the scope of practice of the LPN. These duties include thorough and comprehensive patient assessments and documentation, collection of vital signs, administer injections, ear syringes, cryotherapy treatments, concussion assessments, wound care, first aid assessment and treatment, laboratory review with patient follow-up as well as RN and or Physician support/backup. Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) of reusable instruments is also a requirement of this position; this entails pre-cleaning, manual cleaning, rinsing, drying, inspection, packaging and sterilization as per the Health Centre’s Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
The LPN/MOA prepares lab forms and patient specimens for submission to the Chinook Regional Hospital (CHR) laboratory, and books patients for specialized appointments. The LPN/MOA must be able to explain procedure requirements to patients when needed. The LPN/MOA must have an understanding of referral/specialized testing processes as well as tracking and redirection of referral/specialized testing if needed. This position must ensure all medical areas, exam rooms and equipment are cleaned, disinfected and stocked.
Position Education and Experience
- Graduate of accredited School of Nursing
- Member of CLPNA
- Current CPR certificate required
- Immunization course
- Medication course
- Medical Device Reprocessing course
Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $4,576.00 - $5,114.00 monthly Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $4,576.00 - $5,652.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 9)
