Your Opportunity
The Chinook Primary Care Network (CPCN), in partnership with Nurture Family Feeding Clinic, provides an innovative program to offer breast feeding support services within Lethbridge and rural communities in South Western Alberta including Pincher Creek and the Crowsnest Pass- Travel required. The successful candidate will bring with them creativity and excitement to partner in the creation, implementation, and evaluation of this innovative role across the CPCN.
Job Description
The Lactation Consultant acts as an advocate to support healthy infant feeding by collaborating with other members of the healthcare team at Nurture Family Feeding Clinic and across the CPCN. Using visionary thinking the Lactation Consultant incorporates current research-based knowledge related to breastfeeding and other forms of infant feeding with innovative ideas to effectively connect and provide care to families. Care is provided directly to patients and their families in consultation with other health care providers. The Lactation Consultant provides leadership in planning, coordinating, implementing and evaluating education activities for patients/families and the development of innovate practices to encourage healthy infant feeding. The Lactation Consultant adheres to the ILCA Standards of practice and the IBCLC Code of Ethics.
Position Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of a recognized school of nursing and currently registered with the
- College and Association of Registered Nurses
- Certification as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant required
- Current BCLS
- Current NRP certification
- Degree in nursing preferred or a diploma in nursing including experience as an International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant will be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum of three years recent experience working with the maternal- newborn population.
- In person as well as virtual group teaching and facilitation experience essential in pre-natal breast feeding prep as well as post-natal breast feeding support.
- In home care provision.
- Working with Indigenous Population, Hutterite Population
- Previous experience as a Lactation Consultant is essential.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills and is able to maintain good working relationships with all members of the health team.
- Able to provide care both in person, in home and virtually.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and work independently and as part of a team.
- Demonstrated change management skills, leadership skills, and critical thinking ability.
- Demonstrate ability to triage and prioritize care appropriately.
- Valid Driver’s license
Other Considerations:
- This position will provide care at Nurture Family Clinic (~one day per week) and up to 2 rural locations in Pincher Creek and the Crowsnest Pass
- Vehicle required.
- Mileage reimbursement negotiable based on candidate’s home location.
